Book Two, Chapter Three, �How Daniel Killed the Monster Single Handed�

We are Martyn Yanyez De Barbudo, Zytsi mason, Estalyn the Elf, and Daniel the Bard. Where are Giles and Aruth? Well Martin is in Hawaii and Dave is working.

 

27th Agrazhar. Martyn decides to blow the horn 3 times - oh no he doesn�t (GM whim not invoked). Continue to follow river (marsh). South side of river. It�s a short cut.

28th night 2nd watch. Zytsi spots figures off. Daniel wakes Martyn and then Estalyn. Shall I wake Aruth - no we�re better off without him. Giles needs his sleep. Estalyn whinges about being sold into slavery - again - then takes off his clothes and turns into a fox.

 

A low whistle, Martyn and Zytsi advance. A fox comes out towards them. A warning arrow. A couple of tribesmen - friendly to foxes. Oh yes its raining. Tribesmen come out friendly. 3 more. Great hero, short mighty warrior.

 

Travelling 7 days - 5th Azura. Namoth, Artoo, Yarma, and Mando have been sent by shawoman to get us. Set off 1st thing in morning.

 

Follow them into forest. About 1/2 day travel. Small village. Flint weapons. 10 huts, mud huts, low tech, well camouflaged huts though.

 

Rest, evening feast, including a bowl of grubs, rest is vegetables, the grubs taste OK. They butter us up.

 

Shawoman says they have a problem. 11 people gone in last week. We are the dreamed off heroes (or at least 4 of us are) who are to save the tribe.

 

Big on Dreams this lot.

 

A demon which isn�t a demon and lives in the marsh. They are losing more people than finding bodies (chewed up). Been going on for 2 years - getting worse.

 

Right in the middle of the marsh is a Temple of Ilvir, run by servants of Ilvir (the monster god). This is the swamp of the big lizard things (the Ilme), who�ve just helped - servants of Ilvir. They may or may not be behind it.

 

Shawoman needs to get to another encampment. There goes Aruth and his wagon, with Giles as the guard. (Matriarchal New Age Society, free love, natural things)

 

Smear berry juice on us to keep off marsh fever (another reason for Giles not to go). Probe ahead with a 10 ft pole, 1 each. Artoo as guide. 2 days to it.

 

1/2 day to place (on way to swamp) we see a goat, a good omen (legendary goat). Martyn contemplates a goat familiar. He charms the goat, a big goat (180 hits � it�s a big goat). It comes with us.

 

8 Gargun attack on 1st watch. Martyn and Zytsi kill them. One escaped and Martyn ran after it but it got away. A fox bit me to wake me up; I thought it was the goat until he said so. Artoo killed the Gargun that got away.

 

Thence to the swamp. Martyn lost his razor. Artoo guide to the swamp, not through it. In and cross a river. Messy. Naff raft. Estalyn was crossing as it fell apart. He started drowning so Martyn jumped in and smacked hell out of him. Lots of leaches.

 

9th Martyn calls upon Larani for a flat bottom boat and Lo! One is found glowing with Holy Light. Oh yes the goat is still with us. The boat moves by itself - holy stuff, divine intervention.

 

6 hours later. It stops by a grassy mound - oh look another one. We get off and the light dies.

 

See solid ground. 6 buildings dab and wattle in a circle.

 

Wait see tribesman wandering around. Wait until 10 p.m. and put across (quietly). People still around. At about midnight someone is dragged out and tied to a low altar. 3 men come out (priest).

 

Martyn goes up and they attack him. Messy, very messy.

 

Khuzdul pin cushion thrown down pit in centre of area. Tentacle monster at bottom. Martyn drives it off and get Zytsi leave free sacrifice back into temple hut (which Martyn just set on fire) to get rest. 2 priests died and a few other, rest run off.

 

Some herbs, 304 silver pennies, ring, amulet from a priest, staff.

 

We went away. Then we came back and burned the monster. To be exact I remembered we hadn�t done it and nobody else (but me) made the save to keep attacking it - so I went back and killed it. That�s what you�re trying to tell me. I had to go back and kill the big nasty monster on my own. Does that make me a hero, not with this lot it doesn�t.

 

13th Azura. Back 4 days. Zytsi (who was nearly dead but a herb saved him and fixed him totally) came round on day 3, and Martyn�s power points came back (told you I was messy).

3 days to village. 16th Azura back to natives with 9 rescues. Bujoc tribe.

They guide us to the borders of Thay, through a gap in the mountains. We rest for a week before we set off.

 

Get to borders a week later. 30th Azura 724. 2 more days to Thay, 2nd Halane.

 

Go to the Temple of Larani first. Sir Enyil Servil, Grandmaster of the Fighting Order, the Order of the Lady of Paladin. He doesn�t like Martyn. Martyn grovels. Doesn�t like Elves and Goats much, grovel. We are led to a place to clean up and dress up and go to see Primate of Larani in Harn - Kerthede of Talvail (Giles is drunk at this point).

 

Impressive building. Meet the primate. Dish out the Saga, close questioning. Martyn made a knight!

 

Takes a week to set up and cost 5,000d. Party afterwards. We meet Martyn�s parents.

 

((Now just to make sure you are all aware, it might have been obscure in the notes. The GOAT is Martyn�s familiar (as in the spell) and most to the Temple people think he�s crazy for doing it. He thought a War Goat would make a good familiar, nobody else did.))

12 Berlik (2 oz per dose� - 240 oz total) negates minus for 4 hours - paste/apply

 

4 Fletharane� - hallucinogenic, overdose cause memory lose (if used in combination with dream spell makes it better, 2 points memory - 10 if done twice in the same week.)

 

6 Kargele healing herb - pain killer and soporific 2 - 50 hours deep sleep. heals 1 hit per hour + normal healing rate doubled + for each 10 hours will heal 1 per round (bleeding)

 

Invisible ink (enough for 2 A4 sheets of paper)

 

3 Stilltrasar - emetic/diuretic (laxative) empties you in 10 minutes - prevents cures all poisoning - except nerve poison - don�t take more than 1 dose at a time. At - 50 % , which reduce by - 10 % a day. Knackered
